India’s strongest medal prospects at the Olympics

India will send a strong group of names to the Summer Olympics in Tokyo and should have good chance of bringing home some gold medals. The shooting disciplines are undoubtedly India’s strength at the Olympics with several top seeded athletes representing the nation.

Saurabh Chaudhary will be entering the Olympics on July 24th when he features in the 10m Air Pistol Individiual event. Anything but a podium place would be a huge surprise as Chaudhary has proven to be an extremely consistent shooter. He has participated in five world cups so far and has reached the podium each time. If Chaudhary shows up and perform at his high standard there will be nothing that can stop him from bringing home a gold medal to India.

Mirabai Chanu is ranked number four in the world in her division and with two higher ranked weightlifters already pulled out of the competition Chanu will have a great chance of reaching the podium. She holds the world record for the clean and jerk segment which obviously will be a huge advantage for Chanu as she will never be out of reach for the medals, even after a less good start in the snatch segment.

PV Sindhu hasn’t had too many tournaments to play prior to the Olympics with the COVID 19-pandemic disrupting big parts of the badminton season. However, she still belongs to the world’s elite and will have a good chance of reaching the final. The women’s single badminton tournament is a close one to call where all matches will be a huge test. PV Sindhu will have to be at her best to go all the way, something she has shown herself capable of before as she has become somewhat of a big tournament player.
