What seemed to be an impossible task for Liverpool at the beginning of the year with Manchester City as much as 13 points ahead, have become one of the closest fights for the English Premier League trophy in years. Liverpool have been brilliant throughout 2022 and not since their 2-2 draw against Chelsea have they dropped a point in the league. 10 consecutive wins and only two goals conceded shows what an amazing run Jürgen Klopp and the boys are currently at and is why we have every reason to believe that the game against Manchester City on Sunday will be something special.

Manchester City and Pep Guardiola can’t be too amazed by how fast Liverpool caught up on them in the league table. What seemed to be an almost secured league trophy in January is now up for grabs between the two biggest rivals in recent years. Guardiola knows that as long as his team doesn’t lose against Liverpool on Sunday, they will still have everything in their own hands. Another interesting note is that Liverpool haven’t won at the Etihad in the Premier League since 2015(!) – Can they extend that record past Sunday’s encounter?

Team News

We will see two sides lining up with the best they possibly can on Sunday night as both managers have a close to fully fit squad to choose from. Ruben Diaz (CB) is the absence and even though he will be missed in the middle of the defence, Manchester City proved earlier in mid-week what they are capable of when they beat Atletico Madrid 1-0.

A starting lineup for Manchester City is always hard to predict as Pep Guardiola is a man of surprises. However, we can expect a defensive lineup with Walker, Stones, Laporte and Cancelo. Further up we will go with a trio consisiting of De Bruyne, Rodri and Gündogan. Leading the front will most probably Sterling, Foden and Grealish do.

When it comes to Liverpool it’s slightly easier to predict a starting eleven. The back four with Robertson, Van Dijk, Matip and Alexander-Arnold is no surprise. The midfield will be the strongest Jürgen Klopp can possibly start with which means Thiago, Fabinho and Henderson. As front three we decide to go with the original gang in Mane, Firmino and Salah. Klopp knows what gets with these three on the pitch and a player like Firmino could prove to be a key in order to stop Manchester City’s buildup play.

Prel Line-Ups

Manchester City: Ederson; Cancelo, Laporte, Stones, Walker; Gündogan, Rodri, De Bruyne; Grealish, Foden, Sterling

Liverpool: Alisson; Robertson, Van Dijk, Matip, Alexander-Arnold; Thiago, Fabinho, Henderson; Mane, Firmino, Salah

Betting Tips

So, how will this intriguing battle end? One thing we know for sure is that it’s going to be one of the best games of the season. There’s a lot at stake and a loss can prove to be disastrous for both teams. This could lead to a more careful mentality, even more so from Manchester City who knows that 1 point is another step towards the league trophy. Both Manchester City and Liverpool have one of the league's best defences and it will take something extra to break the deadlock. The odds at Betway for under 2.5 goals in the game is 2.20.
