Mumbai Indians

Previous season: 1st
Coach: Mahela Jayawardene
Captain: Rohit Sharma
Indian Premier League Trophies: 5 (2013, 2015, 2017, 2019, 2020)

Mumbai Indians is the team to beat this season. Since 2012 they have been a true powerhouse on the Indian cricket stage winning five IPL title in eight years. The squad is strong all-round and it’s hard to find any obvious weaknesses. Rohit Sharma, Quinton de Kock, Trent Boult and Jasprit Bumrah are all players who the other teams would do anything for having in their own squads. Mumbai Indians to finish top four is a safe bet going into the new season, if they can repeat last season’s title winning performance or not is left to be seen.

Delhi Capitals

Captain: Rishabh Pant
Indian Premier League Trophies: -

Delhi Capitals were inches away from winning the first ever trophy last season. Mumbai Indians were too strong then as Delhi Capitals now prepare for revenge. Six players have been released by the franchise ahead of this season meaning there will be a lot of work to do for manager Ricky Ponting. Shreyas Iyer, who was the supposed captain, picked up a serious injury ahead of the upcoming season which will see him sit out the 2021 season. Not the build-up Delhi Capitals were looking for, though they have a good replacement in Rishabh Pant who will take over the captaincy. Most of the players from last season have been retained and Delhi Capitals should be a team to include in the favorites to win the title this season.

Sunrisers Hyderabad had a strong season in 2020 and finished third in the point table and fell against Delhi Capitals in the Playoffs. David Warner, 34, is the most important player in the team and if Sunrisers Hyderabad is to have a good season the Australian batsman will have to play at his best. Transfers worth mentioning are the ones of Kedar Jadhav and Mujeeb Ur Rahman, two players who can be the difference between a disappointing season and a top four finish for Sunrisers Hyderabad.
