The rivalry between India and Australia

It might not be as deep rooted and strong as the rivalry with Pakistan, but India vs Australia will always be something extra. These are two of the strongest cricket teams in the world, hence there will always be intense games between the two nations.

While the rivalry with Pakistan is boosted by the political tensions between the two nations, the rivalry with Australia is purely about sports and what happens on the pitch. India and Australia have produced some of the most skilled cricket players in the history and every time they face each you can be sure about a high-quality game.

In 1996-97 India and Australia decided on an international tournament between the two nations. As of this year the tournament has been held 14 times and India is the most successful nation of the two with 8 titles. Indian won the title in both 2017 and most recently in 2018-19. Until 2018-19 year’s tournament India had never won the trophy away from home.

The tournament consists of several matches and it is the nation with most wins that gets crowned as champions. If the tournament ends with a draw it’s the reigning champions that keeps the trophy. Last tournament that was played, 2018-19, ended with one win for Australia, one draw and two wins for India.

The 2020-21 series between India and Australia is planned to start at the 3rd of December and finish on the 7thof January. Due to the ongoing Covid-situation dates and venues are not set and there’s even a risk that some matches will be postponed or cancelled. Going into the 2020-21 tournament Australia is hoping to claim the trophy after two consecutive wins by India. Playing at home will be a huge advantage for Australia as India have only managed to win the trophy away from home once in the history. The tournament schedule as of today:
