Since their 7-0 win over Crystal Palace, Liverpool haven’t managed to show up as we’re used to with this Jürgen Klopp-side. Manchester United looking to break Liverpool's Anfield record
Manchester United went ahead of Liverpool after their 1-0 win against Burnley earlier this week and is going into Sunday’s game as league leaders. It’s the first time in seven years that Manchester United are top of the table when we’ve reached January. Much has changed since the loss against Arsenal back in November when several experts and fans were calling for Ole-Gunnar Solskjaer to step off as manager. The Norweigan has since then managed to turn the ship around and Manchester United have now gone 11 league games without defeat.
The 1-0 win against Burnley on Wednesday came at a cost though as both Martial and Matic picked up injuries. It’s still not known if they will be fit for this weekend’s game as it would be a big loss for Ole-Gunnar if they can’t make it. Apart from that Manchester United are expected to line up an identical starting eleven to the one that played Burnley away. Bailly and Maguire seem to be the go-to defenders when Lindelöf is out, and they will be covered by Wan-Bissaka and Shaw on the defensive wings. Paul Pogba will play a vital part in Manchester United’s attempt to beat Liverpool at Anfield as he will have to control the midfield and not letting Liverpool soak up their opponents with their high-intensity press.
