History

The rivalry goes a long way back. It all started back in 1947 when the Old British India was partitioned into two republics, India and Pakistan. The division was followed by long and bloody fights between the two sides and millions of people migrated across the borders. The relation between India and Pakistan has been up and down throughout the years and even if some games and series have been forced to be put on hold due to conflicts or war, we’ve been able to witness some terrific matches in the past.

India and Pakistan have played fifteen test series against each other, most recent in 2007/08. The majority of the games have been tight ones where both teams have been more focused on not losing than actually winning the game. 2019 ICC Cricket World Cup – The most recent ODI between India and Pakistan was played in 2019. Manchester was the location and the excitement for the game was massive. The game was played at Old Trafford and the capacity was 26 000 for this event. The organisers told that they got over 400 000(!) applications for the game. India won the game by 89 runs but fell short in the semi-finals against New Zeeland. Pakistan never made it past the group stage.

1986 Asia Cup – India seemed to be set for their second consecutive Asia Cup trophy in 1986, having won the previous tournament in 1984. Pakistan went into the game as underdogs but showed that they were just as good as their big rivals. Unfortunately for Pakistan, they later lost in the final against Sri Lanka by six wickets.

2004 ODI Tour – This game is remembered for being the first one being played in Pakistan for 15 years. Tensions and political disagreements between the two countries have led to less games between India and Pakistan, but in 2004 it was finally time for India to enter Pakistan. The game was a tight one where India could walk away with a win after an entertaining battle.
