India tour of Australia 2020/21

The tour started with three ODI’s where Australia proved to be the stronger team as they won two games. India managed to defeat the hosts in the last ODI which was held in Canberra. After the ODI’s it was time for a series of three T20I games. This time it was India’s turn to show up and perform an impressive series. Two of the games ended with a victory for India while Australia was the better team in the third and final T20 game.

So far it has been a tight and close affair between the two nations, just like we expected before it started. Now there're four games left to look forward to, spread out over the upcoming month. The test games are schedule to take place on the following dates:

17th – 21st Dec                    1st Test Game
26th – 30th Dec                  2nd Test Game
7th – 11th Jan                      3rd Test Game
15th – 19th Jan                   4th Test Game

India vs Australia – 1st Test

On the 17th of December it’s finally time for the first of four test games. The excitement and expectations are building up. The two nations haven’t played each other in a series of test games since the beginning of 2019. India stood for an impressive performance last time out and will hope to repeat that, even though they know it’s going to be a tough task.

The test series starts off with a day-night test which is going to be played with the pink-ball, something that Australia is far more familiar with than the guests. If India can manage to stand strong against Australia in the first test, they’ll have a good chance of winning the whole series. The Indian skipper Virat Kohli will only participate in the first test game before leaving the tour to become a dad. A win is therefore crucial for India who’s going to be without one of their front men in the final three games.

Looking at the positives ahead of the test game series, the Indian star batsman Rohit Sharma is back in training after a hamstring injury that he picked up in the Indian Premier League. Sharma will not be able to play the first two test games due to Australian quarantine rules but will team up with the rest of his countrymen in time for the final two games.

The outcome of the test series will come down to how India can handle the pink-ball game as it’s a whole different game compared to what they’re used to. Ajinkya Rahane, who’ll replace Virat Kohli as team captain once he leaves the tour, will also play a big part in India’s chances of winning this series. Can he step up and don’t get too pressured by the captaincy, India should have a decent chance of repeating the success from two years ago.
