This is EuroLeague 2020/21

The EuroLeague 2020/21 started on the 1st of October and will be running until the 9th of April before the Playoffs starts. 18 teams from 10 different countries will compete in the league this season, 11 of them entering with a long-term license and 7 with an annual license. The teams that’re having a long-term license are guaranteed a place in the EuroLeague, while the teams with an annual license have qualified for this specific season. This is a way of keeping the strongest and most dominant teams in the competition, without any risk of getting relegated.

Long-term licensed teams

Barcelona, Baskonia, Real Madrid, Olympiacos, Panathinaikos, Maccabi Tel Aviv, Anadolu Efes, Fenerbahçe, Olimpia Milano, Žalgiris, CSKA Moscow

Annual license

Alba Berlin, Bayern Munich, Khimki Moscow, Zenit Saint Petersburg, Valencia Basket, ASVEL, Crvena Zvezda

All the teams will face each other two times, one time at home ground and one time away. When the regular season is finished, 9th of April, the eight best teams will proceed to the Playoffs. The team finishing on 1stplace will go up against the team on 8th place, 2nd place will face 7th place etc. The Playoffs are played in a best-of-five-games format where the team with the highest league position gets to play three matches at home ground. If teams are ending up at the same number of wins after the regular season is played, certain types of tiebreakers will be used to decide the position in the table.

When the Playoffs are done the teams who won their match series will advance to the Final Four. The Final Four is the final stage of the EuroLeague season which is being held at a pre-determined venue. This stage is played in a knock-out format, with two semifinals leading up the final.

Even if we’re still in the beginning of the 2020/21 season it’s interesting to have a look at who’re the favourites to win the title. If you’re to believe the bookmakers both Barcelona, Anadolu Efes and the current champions CSKA Moscow will be there fighting for the final spots.
